What are productive landscapes?

At Forgotten Fruits our approach is to develop orchards that employ a mixed planting approach. This system encourages a balance to coexist between aesthetics and productivity. They are designed to deliver high yielding orchards that are low maintenance and hardy; and to encourage a rich bio-diverse environment that is teaming in beneficial insects and bird life.

• Increased pollinator populations
• Higher soil moisture retention
• Lower maintenance
• Reduced disease

From design, planning and supply, through to support, pruning and maintenance our goal is to keep your orchard healthier, more productive and sustainable long into the future.

Planting, pruning and maintenance

Interested in rejuvenating an existing orchard? Or looking for tips on how to maintain your established one? Looking to re-plant, extend or enhance your properties landscaping?

From the Nursery.

We truly appreciate all the amazing growers & orchardists we have met over the past 15 years. Thank you so much for your support plus the permission of material received & used.

We have completed some fantastic projects last year with a few on-going larger scale installations still on the go. Click on the work/projects link to check out what we have been up to lately which we continually update.

If you want to have a beautiful garden that is also productive and low maintenance you might want to take the best first step and book in a consultation site visit to determine how your land can best be designed. Our services are largely for the Northland region and as low as Warkworth.

For this exciting fruit season, may you all have bountiful harvests.

Many Thanks,
Benji and Laura Woodman

Our Story

Our story begins in 2007 when Benji decided to become a nursery man. His passion for providing communities with the know how of feeding families with healthy, heirloom fruit is coupled with his love of developing gardens and orchards which coexist in harmony with both their surroundings and the owners who tend and care for them.

We are passionate about growing strong reliable heritage varieties which do well without sprays.

After many years just focused on growing fruit trees and supplying them to home gardeners we identified a need for proper design of orchard gardens where new property owners had no education around what, where, how to grow a productive beautiful garden. this is why our consultation site visits are so popular. We only take on 2-3 large projects a year so once we are full up clients will wait till the following year.

If you get the foundations right and don’t rush the planting, the trees will bear and flourish very quickly.. have patience and site preparation is 80% of the job.

“We're so impressed with his creativity, reliability, attention to detail, following of the original brief and of course the budget.  The next phase for us is converting one of the main paddocks into a wetland.  We can't wait.”
